Making the Most of Recycling

Despite all of the bad press that recycling has received in the past several years, it works, and the $91 billion recycling industry plays an important role in the circular economy. It’s not a cure-all, but when used in combination with its cousins, waste reduction and reuse, it helps us realize a truly circular system where we reap the most value from existing materials while reducing the adverse environmental impacts of landfilling and incineration.

We suggest looking for reuse and repair opportunities before turning to recycling (and we prioritize those solutions in the resourcePhilly search engine), but when materials are truly at their end of life, recycling is a great option.
